From its original fishing village, Dresden became a spa town and royal residence and later the capital of Saxony. During the Second World War, Dresden was almost completely destroyed by massive air raids and subsequently rebuilt. Now it is an admired metropolis that offers many cultural experiences. There are large shopping galleries right in the city centre and beautiful markets during the Christmas period.
